Casa batllể, Barcelona, Spain

With its sinuous curves and swirling shapes, Casa Batlló looks like a fairytale castle.

While the balconies and pillars are said to resemble skulls and bones, the overall effect of the facade is far from gloomy.

Built in the 19th century, it was remodeled in 1905–7 by Antoni Gaudí, one of the fathers of Catalan Art Nouveau, and some consider it his masterpiece.
