Gibb river road drive, western Australia

The Gibb Road is a dusty route that passes through some of the Kimberley’s wildest terrain. Constructed in the 1960s as a cattle path, this 410-mile (660-km) dirt track can only be tackled in a 4WD. Creeks, gorges, and waterfalls make good stop-off points along the way, and bush hikes bring you to deep pools that are perfect for getting the dust out of your hair.
