Icefields parkway drive, Canada

This 145-mile (230-km) route from Lake Louise to Jasper takes in the spectacular Canadian Rockies, home of the vast ice fields of Columbia and Athabasca, as well as extensive flora and fauna. It’s hard to believe that this scenic highway, now the main north-south route through this inhospitable range, was built in 1930 as part of an unemployment relief project.
