NEED TO KNOW
Kaa-Iya del Gran Chaco National Park and Integrated Management Natural Area is the biggest national park in Bolivia and one of the largest in South America.
It is a protected area in the region of the Gran Chaco and has a larger surface area than Belgium.
Highlights
This tropical forest gets so little rain that many of its animals have adapted so that they can go for days without water: deer and tapirs get their liquid from cacti, while big cats rely on fluids from their prey.
The forest is also thought to be home to around 1,000 jaguars – the largest number in any protected area in the world.
