Khyber pass steam safari, Pakistan

This 19th-century railway line begins in Peshawar and works its way between the Sulaiman Hills, passing through 34 tunnels and over 92 bridges, and climbing 3,940 ft (1,200 m) along the way. The coaches, which are pulled by two oil-fired engines, wheeze and shudder as they cross this rugged landscape. The scenery from the train is starkly beautiful.
