This is one of the oldest mosques in Islam and one of the most beautiful.

Built in the 8th century, during Omayyad rule, it was originally a place of worship for both Muslims and Christians: Muslims prayed at the eastern side, Christians at the west. Besides its fine courtyard, the most stunning features are the glorious decorative mosaics that cover the walls.
