La Chascona (“the uncombed”) is the epitome of a poet’s home, full of art and optimism. It was built by Pablo Neruda on a hill by a stream, after he discovered the spot with his lover, Matilde Urrutia.

The place grew organically, and its fascinating complex of whimsical rooms is filled with art and found objects, including a portrait of Urrutia by Diego Rivera.
