NEED TO KNOW

Buckskin Gulch! Widely known as the longest slot canyon in the world, this 20.6 mile hike is one for the books.

Backpacker Magazine even named it the most dangerous hike in the United States due to the extreme flash flood danger. Makes you want to hike it tomorrow, right?!

Highlights

Slot canyons are characterized by their narrow openings and great depth, and nowhere in the world are they as deep – or as long – as at Buckskin Gulch.

The sunless depths of this 15-mile (25-km) canyon can be walked, although some people like to go canyoneering too. The gulch is a tributary of the Paria River, which flows into the Colorado River.
