Parranda, remedios, Cuba

On Christmas Eve, little colonial Remedios explodes with pyrotechnics and a cacophony of cowbells, trumpets, and drums, while dancing and floats crowd its streets. The festival began when a local priest, dismayed by poor attendance at Midnight Mass, sent children out with whistles and tin cans to wake everyone up and force them to church.
