Ryugyong hotel, pyongyang, North Korea

Resembling a huge space rocket, the Ryugyong has been nicknamed the “Hotel of Doom.” It was begun in 1987, when it was intended to be the world’s tallest hotel at 1,085 ft (330 m), but has never been finished. Construction started again in 2008 but, due to structural defects and the enormous cost of completion, it’s unlikely to open soon.
